Crossed comic coming to the big screen

Get ready for more years of debate about one of the comic book industry’s most polarizing authors. Of Garth Ennis’s many works that rely on gore and gratuitous violence to shock readers, his 2008 series “Crossed” is widely considered his most extreme. It’s a bleak, cynical, no-holds-barred spin on the zombie trope brimming with depictions of torture, mutilation and rape that can make even the most seasoned of gorehounds squirm.

Two years ago, Six Studios first announced the film adaptation of “Crossed,” with Ennis himself in charge of the script and “The Sadness” (2021) director Rob Jabbaz slated to direct. Jabbaz is the perfect choice, given the Alvin virus in his film is directly inspired by the virus featured in Ennis’s work. Six Studios released the first teaser trailer for “Crossed,” featuring shots that appear to be direct adaptations of numerous comic panels.

Should Ennis and Jabbaz produce an even somewhat faithful adaptation of the source material, you can expect it to be one of the most extreme horror films of the last decade. It’s going to make a lot of people very upset, and that’s more or less the whole point. Extreme horror of this caliber – the kind that rarely, if ever, makes it onto screen – should ruffle feathers.
