[EVENT REVIEW] Halfway to Halloween at Slashers, Costa Mesa, California
Halfway to Halloween might be over, but that's never the case at Slashers Axe Throwing & Ale. This year-round horror hotspot is the perfect place for any horror fan who loves niche horror props, horror movies, horror slashers, or axe throwing. If you live in Orange County or are willing to make the drive out, we highly recommend it. We attended Creepy Kingdom’s Halfway to Halloween trivia night along with a relay race, cryptid hunt, I Spy, costume contest, and, of course, prizes for each group that participated in the games. Each game was more difficult than the last and upped the challenge. However, that isn’t to say that they weren't also fun.
The hosts for the evening were Amanda, who ran the games around Slashers, as well as making sure everyone was having a good time. Josh and James of Creepy Kingdom were in charge of trivia that kept everyone on their toes. Josh even had ME scratching my head and questioning my horror knowledge. Looks like I’ll need to brush up for the next trivia night which they host monthly at The 4th Horseman in Long Beach.
The Cryptid hunt, I Spy and Axe Throwing portions were hosted by Amanda who not only brought the fun games she also cracked a Joke or two and for those who love puns would’ve died laughing. I really enjoyed trivia but my personal favorite might have been the Cryptid hunt. Each lane is based off of a horror character icon and on the wall was a Cryptid you had to identify while also scoring points during the Axe throwing games. There were plenty of horror icons also running around the venue all night trying to get their scores like Chucky, Pumpkineater, and a few ghostfaces who were blinged out!
The final event of the night was the costume contest which had some interesting entries including a spider Rex, Pain and Panic from Hercules, killer couple Chucky and Tiffany, and the staff also joined it on the fun. There were an anglerfish, a werewolf and a Jedi behind the bar. There were also specialty drinks that we didn’t get a chance to divulge in but that just gives us an excuse to come back.
If this is your first time throwing axes or not knowing what to expect at this event you are in luck because they have camp counselors who are there to teach you how to survive your favorite horror film. Huge thanks to Creepy Kingdom and Slashers for throwing this amazing event together and allowing us to come out and enjoy the evening with other horror fans.
Make sure to follow Slasher's Axe Throwing on Instagram, they post trivia questions that you can answer in person and win a prize. They also post their upcoming events and new drinks that are to die for.
