Jacksepticye’s Godmother wraps production

New independent thriller Godmother has finished its production and is on its way to its 2026 festival debut. This film is directed and co-written by John Vernon along with Alanah Pearce. Pearce launched the studio Charred Pictures, who is distributing the project.

The story follows Theo and his boyfriend Colby, who embark through the High Deserts for a weekend of romance. Their plans erode as a pair of suspicious and friendly retirees crosses their path with dark intentions.

The cast stars Paige Evan (A Killer Behind Closed Doors) as Theo and Cameron Cuffe (Krypton) as Colby. The retirees will be played by Bruce Davidson (X-Men) and Horror Icon Dee Wallace (E.T.).

Pearce discussed how they are approaching the funding for the project differently than traditional filmmaking by allowing creators and streamers that are fans to contribute.

“One thing that I’m doing very, very differently… is reaching out to content creators,” she states, specifically the ones that “just want to make something cool.”

She added: “ These are YouTubers or Twitch streamers who have a lot of money and, in a lot of cases, just want to make something cool. They already have these established careers where they can continuously make money. They operate very differently to most investors in the film industry.”

A YouTuber connected to the project is Jacksepticeye, who is executive producing the project. He posted on his Instagram account,“ SURPRISE! I'm producing an independent horror film.”
