[MARKET REVIEW] Ruler of Nightmares: Horror Trivia Pageant
Ruler of Nightmares: A Horror Trivia Pageant, hosted by Return of the Giving Dead and sponsored by Horror Monger Collectibles at The Silver Key Lounge in Mesa, Arizona, was a spooktacular event!
This event benefited the One N Ten non-profit organization, and there were many ways you could donate if you attended. A special cocktail and sandwich were available, and $1 from each sale went towards One N Ten. Some killer raffle prize bundles were up for grabs, with the majority of the money made from raffle ticket sales going to the organization!
Then, there were even a couple of vendors there who were donating some of their profit made at the event towards the One N Ten non-profit. The pageant contestants went all-out for their cosplays, and every one of them totally slayed the runway.
The contestants were The Grabber, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, Ash Williams, Pearl, The Bride of Frankenstein, Leatherface, Freddy Krueger, Micheal Myers, Art the Clown, and Betelgeuse.
The fantastic people sitting at the judge's table were Karen Fields from the iconic summer 80s slasher ‘Sleepaway Camp’, Aaron Sorenson, and Miss Elvi Pearl. The event was jam-packed and full of fun things to see and enjoy. To start the event, a special effects demo done by Zombi took place from 12-1pm, and then there was some downtime to walk around to look at the vendors and sit to get a bite to eat and a drink to sip.
At 2pm, Scaredy Cast began hosting the pageant, and the contestants made their big debut by walking the “runway,” answering a few questions, and talking to the judges about their cosplay. After that bit of the pageant, Aaron Hudson from Cinesylum hosted a nice little Q&A with the horror’s original mean girl, Karen Fields.
After the Q&A it was time for the contestants to take the stage for some horror trivia. There was another slight break to enjoy everything else going on at the event before announcing the winner! At 5pm, announcements started back up again for winners of other categories in the competition, the runner-ups, and, of course, the true ruler of nightmares!
Freddy Krueger won the title of “Media Slayer,” The Bride of Frankenstein won 1st Runner-Up, The Grabber won 2nd Runner-Up, and then, for the moment everyone was waiting for, the winner of the crown for being the ruler of nightmares. Taking 1st place and the title of “Ruler of Nightmares” went to the sassy, sweet, and green The Creature from the Black Lagoon!
In the end, everyone was a winner because this killer pageant and benefit event gave everyone an amazing Saturday to remember in the horror community!
