Oogie Boogie Bash returning with expanded dates

The moment Disneyland Resort dropped the 2026 dates for Oogie Boogie Bash, Halloween fans across Southern California collectively stopped what they were doing. Disney’s wildly popular after-hours Halloween event at Disney California Adventure is officially returning on select nights from August through October, and if history has proven anything, it’s that these tickets won’t last long. Even with additional dates added to the lineup, veteran attendees like myself already know the drill: hesitation means missing out.

As someone who has attended Oogie Boogie Bash every year since 2021, I’ve watched the event evolve from a seasonal fan-favorite into one of the most sought-after themed experiences Disney has ever produced. There was a time when tickets vanished in seconds, leaving thousands stranded in virtual queues while social media timelines turned into digital graveyards of disappointment. This year’s expanded schedule gives guests a stronger chance at securing admission, but don’t mistake more nights for easier access. Oogie Boogie Bash has become a Halloween institution in California, blending Disney magic with gothic spectacle in a way no other theme park event currently matches. Tickets go on sale for Inspire Magic Key Holders on June 16 followed by all other Magic Keys on June 17, general admission goes on sale June 18.

The events name comes from the sinister burlap villain from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, Oogie Boogie Bash transforms Disney California Adventure into a neon-lit underworld of fog, villains, and immersive storytelling. The event’s signature trick-or-treat trails remain the crown jewel, featuring live performances and encounters with Disney villains ranging from classic icons to modern fan favorites such as Hades from Hercules, Ernesto De la Cruz from Coco and Dr Doofenshmirtz from Phineas and Ferb. Last year saw the removal of Sid from Toy Story and Madame Mim from Sword in the Stone with the return of Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty and the addition of Syndrome from The Incredibles. Oogie Boogie towers over guests like the host of a Halloween spectacle, while other villains emerge from shadows, smoke, and glowing stage effects to interact directly with attendees through meet and greets. Going through Villains Grove feels like stepping through scenes of a living Disney horror fantasy with the lights show and silhouettes of some of your favorite Disney Villains.

Beyond the villains, the event has quietly become one of the best rare-character experiences Disney offers all year. Fans continue to flock to the party for exclusive meet-and-greets, including appearances by Mickey, Donald, and Goofy wearing their beloved Kingdom Hearts-inspired outfits — a detail that alone has built a cult following online. Then there’s the Frightfully Fun Parade, returning once again after nearly a decade of haunting the streets of Disney California Adventure since its 2017 debut at Disneyland. The Headless Horseman rises, gravediggers dancing through the DCA streets , and villain-inspired floats create the kind of atmosphere that reminds guests why Disney still dominates themed entertainment. Add the fact that this is one of the only Disneyland Resort events where guests can fully embrace elaborate costumes, and Oogie Boogie Bash becomes less of a party and more of a seasonal rite of passage. Just make sure to check Disney’s costume guidelines before showing up dressed like anything too intense for younger crowds.

For goths, Disney adults, Halloween fanatics, and lovers of immersive storytelling, Oogie Boogie Bash exists in a category of its own. It’s spooky without losing the Disney charm, chaotic without becoming overwhelming, and theatrical enough to make every corner of the park feel cinematic. Walking through Disney California Adventure during the event — surrounded by glowing purple lights, villain soundtracks echoing through the air, and guests dressed like characters pulled from fantasy worlds — feels like entering a version of Halloween that only Disney could manufacture.

If 2026 is your first attempt at attending, prepare accordingly: charge your devices, join the queue early, and don’t underestimate how fast this nightmare sells out.
