Pulse reimagining releasing later this month
Japanese horror film Pulse is getting a reimagining, developed by Sony’s Screen Gems and Spyglass with David Boyle at the helm to direct.
This is on the back of the debut of Boyle’s supernatural horror film Never After Dark, which won the Midnighter Audience Award at this year’s SXSW Film Festival. It’s set to have a theatrical release on Sept. 25 by Magnolia Pictures.
The script will be written by Luke Piotrowski (Hellraiser [2022]), with Boyle set to have a pass on the script. Bad Feeling will produce the film with Parker Finn (Smile) and Jonathan Fass representing them in the project.
It will take place in modern day with a new set of characters, but plot details are still being kept hidden. No cast or release date has been announced.
Pulse (2001) was directed and written by Kiyoshi Kurosawa. It’s a sci-fi thriller that follows three outwardly disconnected stories of young adults that endeavor to solve the uncanny ghost visions that are pouring from their computer screens. It premiered at the 2001 Cannes in the Un Certain Regard section to critical acclaim.
