See It on 16MM is taking 'their print of Psycho' on tour around California theaters

16MM screenings are a dime a dozen and our friend Mikey of See It On 16MM has been keeping the format alive! They started screening films in Orange County but have expanded to San Diego, LA, San Francisco, Washington, Oregon, and Texas! The idea came to be in 2022 and since then Mikey has screened well over 30 films in several theaters all over California and beyond.

This year he’s starting strong with a tour of ‘Psycho’ for the 65th anniversary and the first screening he did in Long Beach was close to SOLD OUT! If you’ve never seen or even heard of ‘Psycho’ it follows “Phoenix secretary Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), on the lam after stealing $40,000 from her employer in order to run away with her boyfriend, Sam Loomis (John Gavin), is overcome by exhaustion during a heavy rainstorm. Traveling on the back roads to avoid the police, she stops for the night at the ramshackle Bates Motel and meets the polite but highly strung proprietor Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), a young man with an interest in taxidermy and a difficult relationship with his mother.”

On Mikey’s Instagram post, he wrote “Thank you all for the support this year as I continue to bring the art of film projection back to theaters and areas that no longer have it 🎞️📽️” It’s been a treat to be able to attend a few of these screenings and see the art of 16mm. Just last year we survived the 24-hour horror-exploitation marathon which nearly killed us in the best way imaginable. Needless to say, these screenings don’t happen very often and See It On 16MM does an impeccable job of bringing film prints back to theaters where it all started. If you’d like to experience one of these screenings get in touch with Mikey and see what y’all can cook up!
