[SHOW REVIEW] Annabelle Sessions at Midsummer Scream
Let me start by saying I’ve seen “Horror Nerd Comedy” a total of 4 times over the past couple of years; and every single time this show delivers hearty laughter and witty horror nerdom to its audience. It truly never disappoints. Some comics truly shine, and in of themselves, are worth the ticket. It really depends from show to show, but every show I’ve been to, the comics that nail it outweigh the comics that may have not had the best night. Overall however, they really all do a great job at showcasing their skill of crowd engagement, and prepared material.
This specific show, called “The Annabelle Sessions” at Midsummer Scream was no exception. Julian Fernandez, Barry Under Your Bed, Kelly Mcinerney and of course the host Samantha Hale all stole the show. They each played a different horror character and brought comedy to their otherwise serious personas. Hale portrayed a light hearted rendition of the notorious evil doll Annabelle. Her raspy voice and apt costume made it fun to watch as each of her “patients” were interviewed by her. Fernandez’s portrayal of Jason Vorhees was delightful and downright funny as hell. Jason’s mother played by Mcinerney was a treat to watch as she riffed off the decades long history between this mother son relationship. Finally, Barry Under Your Bed did a great job hosting the show as a sort of “assistant” to Annabelle. I definitely recommend following all the comics and the show itself on Instagram and attending one or more of their future shows. Each performance is unique, pure unmissable fun! You’ll be so glad you did!
