[CONVENTION REVIEW] Son of Monsterpalooza

As Halloween creeps around the corner, Son of Monsterpalooza took over The Marriot Burbank Hotel & Convention Center. This event is a fun-sized version of its sibling show Monsterpalooza which takes place every summer. Majority of the horror community is used to large scale horror conventions like Monsterpalooza which can at times be slightly overwhelming; especially for first timers. So if horror fans are used to larger cons, what makes Son of Monsterpalooza a scary good time? Son of Monsterpalooza is a smaller scale con which allows for more intimate experiences with vendors, cosplayers, and even some iconic horror celebrities! This is also a great event for first time con goers as it is smaller and has a lower capacity which allows first timers to explore the grounds in a much more relaxed manner.

As you make your way across the show floor, you come across a variety of vendors. Whether it's Halloween themed cups, masks, t-shirts, figures, plushies, or even household decor, you will find what you need! The wide variety of items that you can find from these vendors attracts all sorts of audiences. On the show floor you also come face to face with talented cosplayers! Son of Monterpalooza is a great place for cosplayers to showcase their talents through costume work.

Not only do you come across talented vendors and cosplayers, you may also come across some well known celebrities in the horror community! At this years event you had the opportunity to meet Devon Sawa from Final Destination and Casper, Bill Moseley from House of 1000 Corpses, Bill Johnson from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, The Mistress of Darkness Elvira, and even Ola Ray from Michael Jackson’s Thriller!

On a personal note, this was my first time attending this event and even though I have attended other horror conventions, I enjoyed the intimacy of Son of Monsterpalooza and how simple it was to see everyone’s amazing work! I am already looking forward to attending Son of Monsterpalooza 2024!
