There’s faint Chainsaw revs for a return of ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’

There have been reports from Deadline earlier today that had the rumblings of some interested parties in revving up their chainsaws to get a new ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre film in the works. Of those parties were JT Mollner and Roy Lee who are coming off of their successful horror film ‘Strange Darling’ that amassed over 4.8 million at the box office last year.

Another person of interest is Glen Powell who would like to read the script penned by JT and Roy. Horror is becoming a hot commodity and it’s no doubt that studios such as Lionsgate and A24 are also looking to sink their teeth into this franchise. Of course, Neon will want to jump on that bandwagon with their latest hits such as ‘Longlegs’, ‘The Monkey’ and their newest release ‘Keeper’ which will be released later this year.

Deadline spoke to a representative over at Verve regarding this new development “Verve represents The Texas Chainsaw Massacre estate and is building out a multimedia strategy for the seminal horror franchise. Verve has not officially submitted the property into any filmmakers, producers or buyers,” the rep continues. “Because this is such a hot and iconic horror property, packages are preemptively being brought to Verve.”

This is exciting news to hear because that means other franchises that have been “dead in the water” might have a resurgence. The last TCM film that was released following the original storyline was ‘Leatherface’ (2017) and then we got a “reboot” in 2022 for Netflix that was lukewarm for Texas Chainsaw fans. With this news there’s hope yet for ‘Friday the 13th’, ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ and, plenty of other favorites who would like to see another day in the spotlight.
