A surprise sequel that no one expected 35 years later!

Giallo films are an absolute gem to watch. Black gloved killer, synthy soundtrack and a motive that would confuse the average viewer into a coma while they try to figure out which title they are reading. 

In 2019 I watched the film 'Amsterdamned' (1988) A friend recommended it to me when I asked for more films on Shudder and this was at the top of the list solely based on the premise and how insane it sounds and boy did it deliver on every cylinder!

´Amsterdamned follows “A mysterious diver hiding in Amsterdam's canal system embarks on a rampage of gruesome murders, terrifying city officials and leaving few clues for the city's best detective, who doesn't suspect that both his new girlfriend and twelve-year-old daughter may be closer than he is to finding the killer.”

While scrolling through my friends' 2026 movies List on Letterboxd I found a movie aptly named ´Amsterdamned II´ and thought it was a funny coincidence that there's a movie with the same title but as a sequel. I clicked on it and realized not only is it a sequel but the same director is making it! 

The movie was released late last year in the netherlands at film festivals but it will be getting a wider release this year and I´m excited to see what Dick Maas has come up with after 35 years of being in the dark!

´Amsterdamned II´ is a 2025 Dutch-language crime thriller slasher film written, composed and directed by Dick Maas. It is a sequel to his 1988 film Amsterdamned. The film stars Huub Stapel reprising his role as Detective Eric Visser, along with Holly Mae Brood.
