A24 teams with Curry Baker for Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot

Leatherface is dusting off his chainsaw for a new The Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot. A24 has teamed up with director Curry Baker to bring the beloved franchise back to the big screen for a new generation.

Insiders say the film is a reimagining of the first 1974 movie directed by the legendary Tobe Hooper. Not much else is known about Barker’s plans for the rampage Leatherface will unleash on his unsuspecting victims. A TV series from Barnstorm is also currently in development.

This will be Barker’s fourth feature film since he made his 2024 debut with Milk & Serial. His film Obsession is set to hit theaters May 15 after it was purchased by Focus Features for $15 million. The new Texas Chainsaw will be produced by Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Ian Henkel, Stuart Manashil, Pat Cassidy, and co-writer of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Kim Henkel.

Henkel said, “It was a difficult decision, but A24’s embrace of boundary-testing genre film and its record of working with artists who are inclined to test boundaries made them a compelling choice… Plus, we believe having a great creative and producing team — JT Moller, Roy Lee, Dan Cohen, and Glen Powell — in place gives us the best shot at a series that could be genuinely eye-opening and unexpected. There’s an epic tale lurking in the Chainsaw backstory.”

A24 gained the rights after a competitive 2025 auction. By February of this year, they proclaimed victory of the IP over companies like Blumhouse. Verve handed the rights to A24 and looks forward to the company’s plans to preserve the legacy while having a new creative direction.

No release date has been determined.
