We spent the night with The VHS Society, celebrating Halfoween

Horror movies and breweries go together like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches; it just makes sense!

A double feature of ‘Haunt Season’ and ‘Creepshow’ with a group of horror fans who love to drink, laugh, and have a good time is what we all need right now.

LJ, founder and good friend who runs The VHS Society, a monthly gathering for horror fans to get together and watch a horror movie, shop with local vendors, eat delicious food, and freshly popped popcorn, which is perfect for every movie showing.

The night started early when the brewery opened its doors at 5pm to let the early birds in to shop, drink, and mingle. I arrived around 5:45 to grab a seat and chat with my friends. I was greeted by LJ, who gifted everyone who showed up early a tote bag filled with goodies from Dread Central!

We were treated to local spooky vendors, including a tattoo artist who was offering super cute flash tattoos out of their mobile trailer! We were also offered some DELICIOUS food from a local food vendor who had authentic mexican food that I’m still thinking about… I’ll take 4 more sopes, please…

The main event began with the indie horror film ‘Haunt Season,’ and after the film, we were treated to a Q&A with Director Jake Jarvi and Stephen Kristof, who owns and operates Realm of Terror in Round Lake Beach, Illinois.

We were then treated to the short film ‘Graveyard Romantic by Carlos Lerma, who coincidentally also lived in Illinois near Jake and Stephen!

After some difficult trivia hosted by Spooky Swapmeet, it was time for the final film of the night and the main attraction, ‘Creepshow’, which, surprisingly, a lot of people hadn’t seen before, so that was a fun experience seeing people react to “Father’s Day” and “The Crate.” We’re always grateful to LJ and his team for inviting us to this screening. We always try to attend as many as we can!

The next screening is coming up very quickly on May 15th at Slasher World in Los Angeles, California, for the ‘Blood Barn’VHS release party, and tickets for the screening are FREE, so there’s no excuse not to attend.
