Bruce Campbell announces cancer battle

Bruce Campbell is temporarily stepping away from professional obligations to focus on cancer treatment, the actor announced this week.

Campbell, 67, broke the news on social media on Monday, describing his cancer as “treatable not curable.” No other details of his diagnosis were disclosed.

“I apologize if that’s a shock – it was to me too," he wrote.

Campbell added that he would be cancelling several appearances and other work going forward, saying that “Treatment needs and professional obligations don’t always go hand-in-hand.” However, he added that he planned to get “as well as I possibly can over the summer” to tour with his upcoming film Ernie and Emma this fall.

He concluded by saying that he was not trying to “enlist sympathy,” merely trying to get ahead of any “false information.”

He said his fans are “the greatest fans in the world.”

“Fear not, I am a tough old son-of-a-bitch and I have great support, so I expect to be around a while.”

Campbell is best known as Ash from the 1980’s Evil Dead and 1992 Army of Darkness series by Sam Raimi.
