[EVENT REVIEW] Skate Oddity: A Love Witch Skate Date
Skate Oddity A Love Witch Skate Date
LA Kings Burbank Sports Center
3211 W Victory BIvd, Burbank, CA 91505
This was their Valentines Day event and the beginning of many more for us. This grew a passion for the both of us that we didn’t know we had. We’re looking into buying our own skates as well as for our kids. This was our second time attending and we had just as much fun as the first one. Given we attend several horror events throughout the year I have to say this one is very unique and unlike anything we have been to. There are no other spooky skating events out there so that makes this one extra special. You can check out their Instagram @Skateoddity for future events.
Every month they have a new spooky theme; I love how everyone dresses up and goes all out. Dressing up in theme is highly suggested. James is the vinyl DJ playing 80’s, post punk and rock to name a few; fun fact he is also one of the creators of this event. They have spooky themed vendors; the vendor area is free, no need to purchase an entry if you just want to shop and spectate. They also have vegan vendors which was a nice surprise. They have super cute photo opps based on their theme, and a VIP section. There is an entry fee plus skate rental or you can bring your own skates. I love the fact that it is outdoors; the fresh air is great when skating. Given it’s a park you can bring your own picnic, blanket or chairs to take a break. Everyone is welcoming and the good vibes are flowing through the night. This is a kid friendly event, the whole family is welcomed. We highly recommend you attend one of their events. We assure you you'll have a blast. Pro’s and newcomers of all skill sets are welcomed, skate with caution of course.
After the event I had a chance to speak with James and Brynna; they were such a sweet couple. Very welcoming and super cute together. They were able to give me a little bit of a back story on how this event started. They both are DJ’s and that's how they met. Over covid they were looking for something to do James had previous experience and Brynna gained a new passion. This was something they enjoyed doing together and decided to combine the things they loved; Skating, DJing, and horror. I'm sure everyone who attends these events can all agree that we are thankful for their creation. Keep up the great work and continue to allow this event to flourish. We are planning to do an interview video for their next event on April 19th this month's theme Siouxsie + the Bunnies. Stay tuned.
