‘Lights Out 2’ is finally coming to life after 10 years of being dormant

David F. Sandberg gave us a viral short film called ‘Lights Out’, which was later adapted into a feature film, and it scared up $149 million worldwide on a $5 million budget. With the ending alluding to a sequel and the immediate return on its budget, a sequel was inevitable. So why did it take 10 years to finally get greenlit?

While we could speculate on the reason behind it’s long awaited sequel, there’s no clear answer. Most movies are lucky to get a sequel at all. What we can say is that The Hollywood Reporter broke the news regarding the sequel and the early developments.

“New Line has once again brightened up to the idea of a sequel to its 2016 supernatural horror hit Lights Out.

The Warner Bros. division has hired up-and-comer Connor Osborn McIntyre to write the screenplay for the sequel, which has been on and off again on the development track over the years.”

Lawrence Grey, who produced the first film, will return, and David F. Sandberg, who wrote and directed the first film, is back as a producer along with Eric Heisserer. Atomic Monster is also going to produce the film.

There are no plot details at this time, but we’ll be sure to report back when we hear anything further.
