Mike Flanagan’s ‘Exorcist’ film is slated for 2027 with Scarlett Johansson as the lead

Universal had removed the ‘Exorcist’ remake from its original March 13th, 2026 release date earlier this June. The reason for this isn’t clear, but we have a new release date for March 12th, 2027, starring Scarlett Johansson and Jacobi Jupe, written, directed, and produced by Mike Flanagan. What was supposed to be a “radical redo” will now be a standalone film that isn’t tied to the original 1973 film or the 2023 Exorcist Believer.

This will be an original adaptation from Flanagan, Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, and Morgan Creek Entertainment. No word on what the plot will be but stay tuned for more details as they unfold.
