[MOVIE REVIEW] Love finds new ways to shock you in 'COMPANION'

Some folks say January is a dump month for studios. Whatever feels like it doesn’t have box office potential is dumped at the beginning of the month. However in recent years, we’ve gotten some incredible films, and it feels like that trope is dying out.

‘COMPANION’ is about a billionaire's death that sets off a chain of events for Iris and her friends during a weekend trip to his lakeside estate.

If you haven’t seen the trailer and don’t want the surprise spoiled, skip it. Going into this blindly is the perfect way to enjoy this movie.

MINOR SPOILERS

Iris (Sophie Thatcher) is a robot, more specifically a companion for Josh (Jack Quaid), who is a tech bro that is hatching a plan with his friends and they’re going to blame Iris for it all.

The premise is something we haven’t seen before, and with the rise of AI, there was bound to be a film with the reality of what would happen if a robot could love or more importantly… kill someone.

This is Drew Hancock’s first feature film and his first horror film as well. He is set to write the remake for the 90’s classic ‘THE FACULTY’ There’s high hopes for Drew, yet. Sophie and Jack play off each other well in this cat and mouse thriller and it was incredible to see how things would play out with so much at stake and the twists kept coming.

I’m excited to see more from Drew and Sophie, they seem like an unstoppable duo who may take the horror genre by storm!
