Silent Hill f to receive manga adaptation

To commemorate the half-year anniversary of Silent Hill f, it was announced that the game will receive a manga adaptation (featuring a new ending written by Ryukishi07). Accompanying the announcement was an illustration made by Ame Gokin, who will also be drawing the manga’s art.

The manga will be serialized on KADOKAWA’s Young Ace UP platform, which has hosted titles like SK8 the Infinity and The Summer Hikaru Died.

It feels like only yesterday that Silent Hill fans were experiencing a drought of new content, with the notorious survival horror game series having been seemingly forgotten by Konami after the cancellation of Silent Hills back in 2015.

But if yesterday was a drought, then today is a flood. Three new games have come out since the series’ revival was announced back in October of 2022, on top of an interactive web series and another film adaptation.

The latest of these games is Silent Hill f, released last September. Set in the fictional town of Ebisugaoka in 1960s Japan, the game’s story follows teenager Shimizu Hinako as her home town is suddenly consumed by an endless fog containing otherworldly horrors wrought from her psyche. Hinako must solve puzzles and fight to survive against the monsters before her, all while struggling against a mysterious yet apparently inevitable choice forced onto her.

The story was written by Ryukishi07, a writer and indie game developer who gained a cult following from his psychological horror visual novel series Higurashi When They Cry. Although Silent Hill f’s drastic new take on the series was divisive amongst fans, its reception upon release was mostly positive. In particular, fans praised the game’s complex and multilayered narrative, with some going so far as to call it the best since the original Silent Hill games.

No release date has been announced for the manga adaptation. Silent Hill f can be found on all major gaming platforms for $69.99 standard edition and $79.99 deluxe edition, with the former being half-off for the half-year anniversary until April 8.
