'Silent Night, Deadly Night' poster shows that you better be good this Christmas

There have been several iterations of the ‘Silent Night, Deadly Night’ films with a handful of remakes that couldn’t quite withstand the charm and camp the original had. This Christmas however we’re getting another retelling from Cinverse and Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn, V/H/S 85).

The story remains the same, “a young boy who witnesses the murder of his parents at the hands of a man dressed as Santa, only to grow up and become a killer himself. Haunted by trauma and fueled by a twisted sense of justice, he puts on the Santa suit and punishes the naughty.”

But Mike has plans to make the film his own, “Blending psychological horror, brutal slasher thrills and a touch of the supernatural and, shockingly, a sprinkle of romance, the new film hopes to deliver a modern new take on the ultimate holiday nightmare.”

On release day ‘Silent Night, Deadly Night’ was received poorly back in 1984 due to the nature of the film. Angry parents protested outside the theaters on release day and tried to ban the film altogether because a murderous santa wasn’t made for children. They’re right, the film was made for horror fans who like to have fun during the holidays.
