The Mind Flayer is taking over Broadway with 'Stranger Things: The First Shadow'
‘Stranger Things’ is very familiar with taking things to the weird and wild and having a giant Mind Flayer essentially swallowing the stage and being the biggest presence was going to be no easy task.
Kate Tefry who is the playwright for this new adaptation knew that she wasn’t going to get a YES from producers just yet but she was hopeful!
She spoke with EW and said "I was like, 'My big Joker card is at some point we're going to have this huge Mind Flayer deploy and it's going to encompass the entire theater. The theater itself is within the grasp of the Mind Flayer, and this whole story is being told from that perspective,'" she recalls of those conversations. "And everybody was like, 'Awesome, great. We're not doing that. That's... no.'”
Now that isn’t to say there isn’t a mind flayer on stage already, London has their own interpretation that’s been causing havoc and even won an Olivier award in 2024!
Worry not though, Kate is getting her original Mind Flayer design and it’s becoming a reality for the Broadway show Starting March 28th and opening to the public beginning April 22nd.
