Sweet Mother’s Slay: Tempe, Arizona 2026

Sugar, spice, and everything devilishly nice! The Sweet Mother’s Slay event at the Rocket Space Gallery in Tempe, Arizona, was a delightful evening filled with endless entertainment.

We had an absolute blast at Return of the Giving Dead’s Sweet Mother’s Slay: Mummy’s Market and Ugly Dessert Competition, where we had the greatest honor of hosting the dessert competition. We had an amazing time dressing like Wednesday and Morticia Addams for the event, and putting on a little introduction to start the competition. We saw some truly creepy and kooky, mysterious and spooky desserts while hosting the competition.

The contestants really put some hearts and souls into their bakes, meteorically and literally, and the judges had a hard time picking the ultimate winner. However, they finally concluded, and the winner of the competition was...Jessica Zook with her freshly harvested heart cake. In the end, the evening was filled with some killer, disturbing, unusual, but delicious desserts, and we were so happy to be a part of it all.

Not only was there a dessert competition, but there was also a Mother’s Malice Showcase, Lip Sync Show, Vocal and Spoken Word Show, Drag Show, Comedy Show, Acro-Chair Show, and a Rap Show. There was also a scavenger hunt taking place during the event, where the winners were revealed at the end of the night. Be sure to check out Return of the Giving Dead on social media platforms for future spooktacular events!

The AZ Spooky Boos

We are The AZ Spooky Boos, a mother-daughter duo who love all things spooky, horror,

Halloween, and more! We mainly cover events in Arizona, but we also venture out to California,

Nevada, and even Kentucky, to enjoy conventions and meet new celebs. Not only do we go to

horror cons, but we also go to in-store signings, local markets, fun weekend events, early movie

screenings, and whatever else may come our way. We became part of the AZ Horror Community

in 2018 after our first-ever convention, and now, years later, we're running a social media

account covering the events. Though we just started our social media journey a little over a year

ago, we have fully embraced being part of the media coverage side and are always up for

attending new events that welcome us. We started as attendees, and now we are covering cons,

markets, and other events for ourselves and Local Haunts!
