The Descent: Part 2 now available on 4K Ultra HD

If the first The Descent did not completely destroy your desire to ever crawl through a cave again, Lionsgate has something for you.

The Descent: Part 2 is now available on 4K Ultra HD for the first time in the United States, with Lionsgate Limited giving the 2009 sequel its own collectible SteelBook release. It arrived on Aug. 11, 2026 and includes the movie on 4K UHD and Blu-ray along with a digital copy. The SteelBook features custom artwork from Matt Ryan Tobin, and the film is presented in Dolby Vision with English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio.

Directed by Jon Harris, the sequel picks up immediately after the events of Neil Marshall's The Descent. Sarah Carter, once again played by Shauna Macdonald, emerges from the cave system traumatized and unable to fully explain what happened to her friends. Because apparently surviving that nightmare once was not enough, she is taken back underground with a rescue team searching for the missing women.

The Descent: Part 2 has always had the difficult job of following one of the better horror movies of its era. The crawlers remain nasty, the caves are just as uncomfortable, and the movie wastes very little time getting everyone back into a situation where most would have politely declined and gone home.

Lionsgate didn’t stop at upgrading the picture either. The release carries over the audio commentary with Harris, Macdonald, Krysten Cummings and Anna Skellern, along with The Making of The Descent: Part 2: Deeper & Darker, The Genesis, deleted scenes with optional commentary, production design and storyboard galleries, trailers, EPK material and other extras. New retrospective material includes Flashback on The Descent: Part 2 features with Macdonald and Cummings.

The timing is also pretty nice for collectors. The original The Descent received a new 4K restoration in the UK earlier this summer, and now its sequel finally has a U.S. 4K edition of its own.

For fans of the series and physical horror releases, this is a solid excuse to head underground again.
