Until Dawn sequel scheduled for next year

It looks like we already have our first big horror game to look forward to next year.

Sony and Firesprite have confirmed that Until Dawn 2 will release Jan. 28, 2027 exclusively for PlayStation 5, finally putting a date on the follow-up to the 2015 interactive horror hit. Pre-orders open Sept. 10, with both Standard and Digital Deluxe editions available.

Until Dawn 2 is being developed by Firesprite, with AdHoc Studio helping craft the story. AdHoc is the team behind Dispatch and includes former Telltale developers.

The sequel moves away from the original group of friends and introduces Dead True, a crew of fake paranormal investigators chasing views and their next viral hit. Their search takes them from Blackwood Sanatorium to the abandoned Akishima Island, where the supernatural story they are investigating becomes considerably more real than they planned. Player decisions once again determine relationships, story paths, and ultimately who makes it through the night alive.

While the cast and location are new, there is at least one familiar face returning. Peter Stormare returns as Dr. Hill, connecting the sequel back to the original game, and the new trailer shows the Dead True crew investigating Blackwood Sanatorium twelve years after the events that took place there.

Firesprite is also putting more emphasis on relationships within the group. Smaller conversations and personal decisions can affect later branches of the story rather than everything depending on a handful of obvious life-or-death choices. The Butterfly Effect system remains at the center of the experience, so saving everyone will probably require a combination of good decisions, and quick reactions.
