Dead by daylight gets the green light

Run, hide, and grab your friends. Dead by Daylight is stabbing its way into theaters.

After the success of Five Nights at Freddy’s, video game movies have gotten the attention of Blumhouse. As such, audiences will get to see Behavior Interactive’s multiplayer survival horror game come to life in this adaptation.

Blumhouse and Atomic Monster will be distributing the project. They have brought on David Leslie Johnston-McGoldrick (The Conjuring 2),  and  Alexandre Aja (High Tension) to write the beloved survival horror game’s theatrical installment. These two have never worked together, but Jason Blum has faith in the duo, saying, “What David and Alexandre bring to Dead by Daylight is a rare balance of character driven storytelling and relentless genre intensity.”

No cast or director have been chosen. The two writers' tone and direction is what Blum hopes will bring the right director to the project.

“Drawing from survival horror and psychological terror, their work establishes a world where fear is not just experienced, but earned. It is a cinematic blueprint designed to attract a director who can elevate that vision through performance and scale,” said Blum.

Dead by Daylight’s story has four survivors caught in a malevolent entity’s realm where working together is the only hope they have in surviving a killer bent on sacrificing them to its mysterious master.

It’s unknown how faithful to the game the film will be. Producer Stephen Mulroney believes in the story, stating, “Alexandre and David are two modern masters of horror, and their script celebrates a dark distinction, Dead by Daylight is a game, its world is a nightmare … We look forward to working with a director who appreciates the depth of their story, and cannot wait to see their visceral vision brought to life.” Mulroney is producing the film along with Blum, and James Wan.
