Devils in America puts pure evil on stage
This September, Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre Group in North Hollywood digs into true crime with the world premiere of the dark satire “Devils in America.”
Written and directed by Michael Sargent, “Devils in America” offers a triptych of daring plays starring three real and terrible people ripped straight from the tabloids.
In “D.O.A.” Philip Littell stars as Ed Buck, the West Hollywood businessman sentenced to 30 years in prison for soliciting men off the street to take drugs for “party and play,” resulting in the deaths by overdose of two victims. “If I Ever See U Again” sees Keythe Farley in the role of Joseph Brooks, an academy award winning songwriter for the song “You Light Up My Life,” and a man suspected of drugging and sexually assaulting actresses he lured to his apartment under the guise of auditions. Finally, “Madam/Madame,” takes us to capital-H Hell where Suzanne Fletcher plays the role of Ghislaine Maxwell, the convicted child sex-trafficker and partner in crime to Jeffrey Epstein.
“Devils in America” also features Bradley Bazile, Carter Calahan, Shaheed Chapple, Ruby Farley, Shannon Holt, and Margaret Julian. It is produced by Zombie Joe.
Michael Sargent’s recent work includes “Cheat Days,” also at Zombie Joe’s Underground, and “The Last 90 Minutes,” starring Marcia Gay Harden. A movie version of his play “I Hate!” starring Alan Mandell is coming soon.
“Devils in America” has performances Sept 2, 3, 9, and 10 at 8:30 pm at Zombie Joe’s Underground Theater (4850 Lankershim Boulevard, North Hollywood, CA 91601).
