Goblin to celebrate “Tenebre” with North American Tour

Legendary Italian progressive rock band Goblin are celebrating 44 years of Dario Argento’s Giallo masterpiece “Tenebre” with a North American tour.

The tour begins Oct 21 in Philadelphia with a live performance of the iconic score to a newly restored 4k screening of the film’s 1982 print, with classic hits from Goblin’s catalogue to follow the film’s finale.

"After many years—and having performed the scores for 'Suspiria', 'Deep Red' ('Profondo Rosso'), 'Demons' ('Dèmoni'), and 'Dawn of the Dead' ('Zombi') in North America on various occasions—I have finally decided to play 'Tenebre' ('Tenebrae') on tour, partly in response to requests from so many North American fans. It is a wonderful new experience to perform the soundtrack to one of Dario Argento’s most beloved films live, newly restored to 4K." said Claudio Simonetti.

"The music differs from my previous scores, featuring electronic rock sounds that have made it one of the most iconic soundtracks in Argento’s filmography. I have sought to recreate the original electronic style while injecting a dose of high-energy rock to give the sound a more contemporary feel. The music for 'Tenebrae' was composed during the heyday of 1980s dance music; the title theme was a staple of the disco scene, and the “vocoder” parts were and still are frequently sampled by various artists.”

Simonetti’s signature polyharmonics are a staple of Goblin’s sound. Heard across multiple collaborations with directors like George A. Romero, Dario Argento, and Lamberto Bava.

Simonetti states, "I am very excited to embark on this tour, hoping to satisfy the large number of fans who requested it and who have long awaited the chance to finally see it performed live by my seasoned and powerful band. Naturally, after the movie live, we’ll play many of our greatest hits, as usual."

North America’s performances will have a recreation of the hair-raising atmosphere of Tenebre at local historical theaters such as Glendale’s Alex Theater, San Francisco’s Castro Theater, and Boston’s Somerville Theater. New Orlean’s Music Box Village will offer a unique contemporary experience with artistic sculptures and structures incorporated into the sound systems.

Initial tour dates were announced in August and sold out shows in Saugerties NY, Portland OR, Tampa, Florida, and Asheville, North Carolina. This demand has led to new shows added on Nov. 3 at Lincoln, Nebraska, Nov. 14 in Austin, Texas, Nov. 17 in Atlanta, Georgia, and Nov. 18 in Tampa, Florida.
