Horror Nerd Comedy puts a spin on horror musicals at Midsummer Scream
Samantha Hale has been running Horror Nerd Comedy for the past 5 years at the infamous Hollywood Improv, and she has curated some of the best comics who are also die hard horror fans and for Midsummer Scream 2026 she set out to find horror fans who could also sing! She enlisted Jazz Byner, Madeleine Lemay, James Graves, Anastasia Washington, and Those Klein Boyz for her musical comedy line-up.
This was a new place for Samantha because, as she stated before the show started, “I can’t sing, but I found people who can and really well!” and sing they did! Her musical acts ranged from Rocky Horror to Hip-Hop rap battles?? Jazz went the Rocky Horror Picture Show route and dressed up as Columbia. She talked about how fun doing the time warp is, but once you hit a certain age it becomes a mess and all that gyrating isn’t worth it anymore. She also spoke about Frank n’ Furter, everyone’s favorite mad scientist and how he just needed someone to relieve his… tension.
Madeleine decided to show off some of her collection that consists of over 1,000 movies… Disney movies, that is; she’s a bit of a scaredy-cat but also wanted to share her love of Sweeney Todd, and she sang us a rendition of Ms. Lovett’s “The Worst Pies in London” as she tossed fake pies into the crowd; we love an interactive show with props in musical theater.
James Graves sang us an original song about Laurie Strode and how she has to constantly hide from her brother Michael because they love to play hide and seek and it’s all about the chase. That chorus will forever be stuck in my head.
