New Blair Witch Project will not be direct remake
A new Blair Witch Project movie is scheduled to release in just a year’s time.
Lionsgate and Blumhouse are teaming up for the new film, which is scheduled for a September 2027 release. This will not be a direct remake, but rather a fresh take to the original story with Director Dylan Clark (Portrait of God) at the helm. Chris Thomas Devlin (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Cobweb) will write.
“The Blair Witch Project” shocked audiences right at the cusp of the millennium in 1999.
The tale followed three students in Maryland attempting to make a documentary on the legendary Blair Witch. The group encounters various obstacles on their journey which culminates in their ultimate disappearance at the end of the film. A first of its kind, the film used “found footage” for the entirety of the movie. Having witnessed something vastly different than anything they ever had in a theater before, moviegoers were stunned by the raw gritty nature of the piece without jump scares, minimal gore, and low production costs and special effects.
There have been three installments total to date, including the original, “Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2,” in 2000, and “Blair Witch” in 2016.
