Paranormal Activity fans get first look at new video game at PAX East

Horror video game adaptations seem to be all the rage these days. Not just films that adapt the stories of popular horror games, but also video games that adapt iconic horror movies into playable experiences. Whether it’s an online asymmetrical experience like the Halloween game coming from IllFonic this September, or a single-player narrative such as this year’s Hellraiser: Revival by Saber Interactive, these adaptations have something to offer for every horror fan.

Last October brought the announcement of a new upcoming horror movie video game in Paranormal Activity: Threshold from Darkstone Digital, the same developer behind The Mortuary Assistant (2022). The game is an adaptation of the Paranormal Activity films, a supernatural found footage series that debuted in 2007. DreadXP serves as its publisher, working in collaboration with series’ producer Paramount Pictures.

Players of Paranormal Activity: Threshold will take on the role of Daniel Stewart as he and his wife Jessica record the strange occurrences taking place inside of their new home, discovering that they are not its only occupants. The trailer accompanying the game’s reveal contains quick flashes of first-person gameplay in which Daniel films supernatural encounters, investigates his mysterious house, and interacts with the spirits haunting it via strange objects. The Steam page displays other features, such as the ability to “play in multiple timelines,” “discover multiple endings and expand the story,” and a “Paranormal Engine” that “makes every playthrough unique.”

Little is known about Paranormal Activity: Threshold aside from this, but fans won't have to wait long for more. Those lucky enough to be attending PAX East 2026 in Boston during March 26 to 29 will be able to experience the game’s first playable demo at the DreadXP booth.

Paranormal Activity: Threshold is planned to release for PC on Steam at a currently unspecified date.

Jack Jensen (He/They)

Having grown up with the genre from a young age, Jack Jensen loves to experience and talk all things horror, whether it be in the form of film, TV, video games, or literature. When he’s not doing that, he can often be found making his own horrors with his cosplays and short-films.
