Spooky Pictures, Image Nation Studios attached to upcoming V/H/S project

Variety revealed earlier this week that indie genre label Spooky Pictures is partnering with Image Nation Studios to produce V/H/S: SCP, the latest in the V/H/S franchise. Started in 2012, the V/H/S films are found footage anthologies composed of segments made by different filmmakers. However, this marks the first time that the series has ever adapted anything or based itself in pre-existing media. Not only that, but it’s the first time that the online collective fiction project known as the SCP Foundation has ever been adapted into a feature-length theatrical film.

The SCP (Secure, Contain, Protect) Foundation is an online collaborative writing project started in 2008, and it has quickly grown into one of the internet’s biggest science-fiction horror mythoi. In-universe, the SCP Foundation is a shadow organization that finds, contains, and studies all anomalous phenomena. They have two goals: keeping the public safe by shielding them from ever knowing these anomalies exist, and trying to further understand them. As their motto goes, “We die in the dark so that you may live in the light.”

The writing on the SCP wiki primarily takes on the unique form of SCP documents. Each anomaly, referred to as SCPs (ex: SCP-106, with SCP standing for “Special Containment Procedures” here), has its own document. These documents detail an SCP’s classification, containment procedures, a basic description, and any additional evidence or incidents associated with it. There are currently over 9000 SCPs, and counting. Most of the other writings on the wiki are called Tales, which are SCP stories told in a more traditional narrative format.

Previously, the SCP Foundation has been adapted into video games, short-films, and even various web series. The most famous adaptation is SCP – Containment Breach, a horror game released in 2012. After one of the SCP Foundation’s containment facilities experiences an inexplicable power-outage, all of the world’s darkest horrors that the building has amassed are unleashed. Now, the player must keep their wits and stay alive using whatever resources they can find in order to escape.

Variety describes V/H/S: SCP as being, “framed as ‘recovered field documentation,’ or video evidence gathered, redacted and archived by the secretive organization. Standalone segments in the anthology will focus on different objects, entities or events under the containment-breach narrative.”

Producing the film are Roy Lee and Steven Schneider from Spooky Pictures, as well as Josh Goldbloom and Michael Schreiber. Goldbloom and Schreiber have a history with the V/H/S series. Previously, Goldbloom produced V/H/S/94 (2021), V/H/S/99 (2022), and V/H/S/Halloween (2025), while Schreiber had worked on V/H/S/94 and V/H/S/Beyond (2024). They’re joined by executive producers Ben Ross, the CEO of Image Nation Studios, and Rami Yasin from Spooky Pictures.

“The horror genre continues to be a remarkable launchpad for new talent to share original creations, and the vast SCP universe has provided a vital incubator for this creativity to thrive,” said Spooky Pictures co-founder Steven Schneider in a press release. “Along with [Image Nation Studios], this next project reinforces our shared commitment to look in new and unexpected spaces for stories. We can’t wait to expand the V/H/S franchise with new fresh and terrifying stories that will keep viewers coming back for more.”

V/H/S: SCP is set to release in theaters in 2027.

Jack Jensen (He/They)

Having grown up with the genre from a young age, Jack Jensen loves to experience and talk all things horror, whether it be in the form of film, TV, video games, or literature. When he’s not doing that, he can often be found making his own horrors with his cosplays and short-films.
