John Carpenter’s first graphic novel, ‘CATHEDRAL,’ is officially released today from Storm King Comics
“I saw it in a dream: a nightmare landscape deep underground filled with monsters too weird and sinister to exist in daylight. I knew instantly I had to get these things out of my head and into everyone else’s brains.”
Emerging from the shadows is John Carpenter’s dark imaginings, CATHEDRAL. This is not only Carpenter’s first graphic novel but something he has been working on for years. Accompanying this new novel is a brand new single “Revenge” that will also be part of the corresponding album of the same name. The album will be released on August 7th from Sacred Bones Records.
There will be several cover variants available for collectors and fans alike. The Storm King exclusive novel cover is by Francesco Francavilla, the Album exclusive is done by Luis Guaragna with Sian Mandrake. The Sacred Bones exclusive is by Leonardo Colapietro, and Midsummer Scream’s exclusive cover is by Jason Shawn Alexander as well the main cover by Frederico De Luca.
CATHEDRAL SYNOPSIS: The story begins where an abandoned cathedral stands, fenced in and ignored by the world around it. The preoccupied passers-by have long since ceased to notice the dilapidated church in their midst, never mind sensing the danger and centuries old evil trapped inside its walls. A gruesome murder one late night pulls the structure into the spotlight, triggering a police investigation into the loss of one of their own. Lieutenant Christine Marks, along with detectives Paul Hernandez and Steve Mayfield, must enter the church in search of the monster that murdered her father. Every step takes them deeper into the belly of the church revealing the mystery of an ancient evil imprisoned within.
The companion album was conducted by John Carpenter and his longtime bandmates Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies. Each song can be tracked back to a chapter in the graphic novel and liner notes that will guide listeners through the storylines.
