[MOVIE REVIEW] 'LONGLEGS' terrified me 20 seconds in

Osgood Perkins is the type of director who seemingly popped up out of nowhere, but that’s not to say he’s been hiding under a rock. My first memory of seeing him was in ‘LEGALLY BLONDE’ as a side character who we were supposed to pay no mind to. Funny how that would not be the case years later.

His first film ‘I AM THE PRETTY THING THAT LIVES IN THE HOUSE’ floored me and I was caught off guard. A Netflix original that was dark, disturbing but also beautiful. My biggest takeaway from that film was how the story was written and didn’t feel the need to hold your hand which seemingly most horror films tend to now a days.

I was entranced by his work that I needed more… His follow up films ‘THE BLACK COAT’S DAUGHTER’ and ‘GRETEL AND HANSEL’ solidifed for me that Osgood would be one of my favorite directors working today.

His latest release ‘LONGLEGS’ had me gripping my seat 20 seconds in with Nicolas Cage saying “I have my longlegs on today, I’m sorry” and then jumpscares us into the title card.

Never has a movie grabbed me so quickly and quite literally scared the shit out of me. This police procedural has been compared to ‘SILENCE OF THE LAMBS’ and I can see the similarities but it also stands on it’s own as an original piece that doesn’t aim to only shock you but keep you guessing until the very end. I won’t spoil the film because it’s an experience that you need for yourself. It’s gorgeous to look at, Nicolas, Maika, Alicia, and Blair give incredible performances that will be living in my head rent free.
