New DLC dropped for Resident Evil: Requiem

Capcom has shadow-dropped a free new arcade mode for Resident Evil: Requiem (2026), called Leon Must Die Forever. The announcement on Resident Evil’s various social media accounts said, “In this new minigame mode unlocked by completing the main story, clear numerous stages while using randomized enhancer abilities as you race against the clock. Will you be able to make it to the end?”

Leon Must Die Forever is a combination of the series’ previous arcade modes, particularly Ethan Must Die from Resident Evil 7 (2017) and the Mercenaries mode from Resident Evil: Village (2021). Ethan Must Die was a roguelike gamemode where the player—who started off with nothing but a pocket knife—had to find resources and gear randomly scattered across a monster-infested, booby-trapped map in order to beat Marguerite without dying.

The Mercenaries Mode of Village put a roguelike spin on the series’ classic arcade mode. The objective remained mostly the same: kill as many monsters as possible before the timer ran out in order to get a high score. But instead of players fighting in an arena-like map, Village’s Mercenaries saw players fight their way through a series of different areas in order to make it to the end of the stage alive. Within each area, players could find randomized stat upgrades or gain Leu by getting a good score. Leu could then be used between each area at The Duke’s shop to purchase supplies or upgrade their weapons.

Leon Must Die Forever is another roguelike gamemode. In it, players progress through several levels that have been copied and pasted from Leon’s side of Requiem’s story campaign, with the goal of reaching Victor Gideon and killing him before they run out of time. Players can choose the levels they play via several branching paths starting from the first level, the Main Street of Wrenwood. Their choice depends on the strategy they opt for and the recommended difficulty of each level.

Rather than the Tactical Tracker that Leon finds in Requiem’s story, Leon Must Die Forever equips him with the Blood Collector: Cloud 9. Its functions are the same though; you kill enemies to increase its blood points and use them to purchase Enhancers for Leon. He starts with six Enhancer slots, and players can find two more that have been scattered somewhere in the levels. They can also upgrade their arsenal by finding weapon boxes in each level.

Leon Must Die Forever has five difficulty rankings. Beating them unlocks new accessories for Leon that can only be equipped in this gamemode, such as a set of wolf ears and a wolf tail.

This is the first of two DLC that Resident Evil: Requiem will be getting. Requiem’s director, Koshi Nakanishi, announced back in March that the game would receive an as-of-then unrevealed minigame in May, followed by a story expansion at an unspecified date later down the line. Now, Leon Must Die Forever has finally arrived to tide players over until the eventual story expansion.

Both Resident Evil: Requiem and its DLC Leon Must Die Forever are out now on all major gaming platforms. The base game is available for $69.99 Standard and $79.99 for the Deluxe Edition, and Leon Must Die Forever can be downloaded for free and played after beating the main campaign.
