‘Stranger Things’ Broadway is Leaping From Center Stage To Netflix

Hawkins may be safe, but Broadway has been taken over by the upside down.

Collider reports that Netflix will stream a professionally filmed production of “Stranger Things: The First Shadow,” directed by Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin.

It’s an original tale within the “Stranger Things” universe. The focus is on Vecna’s origin story, and serves as a prequel set in 1959 with younger versions of beloved characters.

Teenage Henry Creel seeks to escape his traumatic past with his family’s move to Hawkins, Indiana. His future looks bright when he makes fast friends with Patty Newby. She believes his powers can be used for good.

A visit from a shadowy presence influences Henry to kill several animals. These deaths become investigated by a young Joyce, Hopper, and Bob. Now Henry is left to face whether he can live up to Patty’s trust or will he be made to kill her.

It’s a coming of age mystery where the skeletons of the past come after familiar faces. Bonds will be tested. Hawkins will descend into darkness, unless friendship can shine through.

Based on a story by the Duffer Brothers, Jack Thorne (“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”), and written by Kate Trefry (“Stranger Things”).
Henry Creel will be played by Louis McCartney, alongside Alison Jaye (Joyce), Burke Swanson (Hopper), Gabrielle Nevaeh (Patty), and Juan Carlos (Bob).

The show opened on the West End in 2023 and on Broadway in April 2025, earning four Tony Awards. “Stranger Things: The First Shadow”is still currently playing at the Marquis Theatre in Times Square.
